Welcome

First of all, welcome to English Language Club (ELC) in Universiti Utara Malaysia. Are you familiar with the name “ELC”, or have you ever heard of “Searching For Stars” all these while in the university? No matter what your answer is, a “Yes” or a “No” will both make it interesting for you. English Language Club a.k.a ELC in UUM was established in the year 2007, with the founder, Yau Vi Vien. The main objective of the club starts with enhancing students’ English Language and cultivating the interest in learning English Language. In these 3 years, activities were organized by ELC, aiming to get students in the university to involved in the English Language Arena, be it speaking, writing, listening or even singing. Today, ELC is yet to be a fully active club but is still developing and evolving, to get more attention from students to learn English.

Due to the capacity and most importantly the difference of nature of the club from others, the way we do is certainly different. What we do to make others learn about English is not via meeting and training, just like the English Tuition we may have attended weekly during our old school days, meeting and training can be exhaustive and boring. If it is so, how would we expect students to participate when they have many other activities to do, due date assignments, meeting for activities, sports and other training?

That’s why we focus on cultivating the interest of students on the first hand by providing them the opportunity to participate or join our projects, such as Searching For Stars, Academic Talk… The basis of learning English is to have interest in it and to know the importance in this particular language, people will not be learning if they are not interested or if they do not feel the need to acquire it. That is why they can learn more in joining or participating in the projects, after all it is easier, meaningful and less stressful to speak English during participating in the projects than to practice and present in the class just to get excellent grade and comments, right?

So, stay tune to the site for we will be providing more opportunity for you to participate. Whether you are interested to join our projects, to lead and organize a project under ELC or you are interested in collaborating with us in running your projects or events, you are free to send us an email (elc.uum@gmail.com). We accept any kind of projects and events, from singing to dancing, from writing to speaking, as long as the whole projects is communicating using English, it will all be fine.

Thank you.

Regards

A Few Words From The Ex-President...

Praise to God that ELC has launch its blog for the first time. As the ex-president, I would like to encourage all the undergraduates to join this club as it helps to enhance knowledge and build own confidence in English. I also hope that ELC would organize more activities not only in university or domestic level but in the international level. Wish you all have a great memories in ELC & enjoy learning.
